100 Singers for Venusmusic!

A Vocal Performance Inspired by Planet Venus – Exploring the Power of the Female Voice

We invite female and female-identifying singers from Turku to take part in Venusmusic, a unique vocal performance inspired by Venus – our “temperamental sister planet”.

This project will be part of the ABOAGORA – Between Arts and Sciences symposium 2025. It explores both the scientific and symbolic dimensions of Venus through the power of the voice.

Led by experimental vocalist, site-sensitive composer, and experienced workshop leader Mareike DobewallVenusmusic invites participants on a journey of playful and accessible vocal exploration. The performance will open the symposium on September 10th, 2025 at the Sibelius Museum, and will last approximately 15 minutes.

Who Can Join?

We welcome individual singers and choirs of all experience levels – from complete beginners to seasoned performers. Elderly singers and children’s choirs are warmly encouraged to take part. All you need is curiosity, a willingness to explore your voice, and joy in collective expression.

The vocal material will be engaging, intuitive, and easy to follow. No prior experience in experimental music is required!

How It Works

Singers will perform with the venusmusic played through their own headphones. This is a well-tested approach which allows many singers to come together. Working with headphones in this way supports precise timing and harmonization while keeping rehearsals minimal.

  • You’ll receive a pre-recorded track tailored to your vocal range to help you rehearse individually starting approximately two weeks before the final rehearsal.
  • Please indicate your vocal range(s) when signing up so we can provide you with the appropriate audio track.
  • We will rehearse together once – on the afternoon of September 9th, the day before the performance. This 3-hour session will ensure everyone feels comfortable with the format and with singing together using headphones.

Why Join?

This is a rare opportunity to engage in an innovative vocal performance that blends science, music, and gender themes. Aiming for 100 participants, Venusmusic celebrates the strength and diversity of female voices, reflecting on Venus’s power and complexity – both symbolic and scientific.
