Some of the sessions, including the keynote AGORA sessions, are free and open to all.

The sessions take place at the Sibelius Museum (Piispankatu 17, Turku), unless stated otherwise.

We are striving to make ABOAGORA as accessible as possible. Please find further information on the accessibility of our different venues below, and don’t hesitate to be in touch with us via aboagora@utu.fi if you have any further questions.

For all registered participants, coffee/tea and small snacks will be served during coffee breaks in the Sibelius Museum atrium (or indoors, if it rains).

The event will not be livestreamed.

The two keynote (AGORA) sessions on Thursday and Friday will be recorded and some of the recordings will be published on our YouTube channel after the event. Other sessions will not be recorded.

The event will be photographed and the photos will be used for ABOAGORA’s marketing and communication purposes both during and after the event. If you have any questions or if you wish not to be photographed, please contact us at aboagora@utu.fi.

Venues and accessibility

The ABOAGORA “Venus, the Bringer of Peace” sessions take place at the Sibelius Museum (Piispankatu 17, Turku), except for the following:

  • 11 September, 18:00–20:00: SPIRIT LAND/VUOIŊŊALAŠ EANADAT takes place at the Turku Cathedral, the only medieval basilica in Finland

We are working hard to make our events accessible for our guests and all our venues should be accessible.

The Sibelius Museum

  • The ground level, where the ABOAGORA sessions take place, is accessible. There are small stairs as well as a ramp slope to the concert hall, where the sessions take place.
  • The ground floor is accessible when moving with wheelchair, rollator or a stick. You can access the building also with a perambulator. Guide and assistance dogs are welcome in the museum.
  • The Sibelius Museum is an EU Disability Card location. A personal assistant may enter free of charge.
  • The museum’s lighting conditions are reduced for the purposes of object preservation.
  • The toilets are located on the ground floor, to the left from the main entrance. The museum has an accessible toilet.
  • For more information, see the Sibelius Museum website.

Turku Cathedral

  • The cathedral is right next to the Sibelius Museum, and easily accessible by bus from multiple directions. Click here to visit the Turku region traffic service (Föli) website and plan your route.  From the market square, it is a few blocks walk to the Cathedral.
  • The accessible entrance of the Cathedral is located in the northern side of the building, on the side of the Sibelius Museum. There is a button, from which the door opens. If you need help, please call the Cathedral staff, p. +358 40 341 7100.
  • The church hall is mostly accessible to wheelchairs. There is a ramp leading to the main choir and the altar area. There are also wheelchair accessible toilet facilities in the church. There is one wheelchair for use near the accessible entrance.
  • Please note, that the Cathedral is dark, especially on cloudy days.
  • Turku Cathedral is the mother church of the Lutheran Church of Finland, and the country’s national shrine. It was consecrated as a cathedral (as the main church in the diocese) in 17th June 1300. Its history spreads thus over more than 7 centuries.
  • Church Etiquette: Turku Cathedral is a house of God and a place of worship. They kindly ask visitors to behave respectfully, maintaining the peace and solemnity of the space for those who wish to pray. In Finland, it is customary for men to remove their hats when entering the church hall. Modest clothing is expected regardless of gender. Eating and drinking are not allowed inside the cathedral.
