Coronavirus update: ABOAGORA 2020: Water

COVID-19 crisis and the exceptional circumstances caused by it are felt globally. However, the preparations for ABOAGORA 2020 are proceeding with hopeful wishes that the Symposium could be held this summer for the 10th time between August 19th and 21st. We are considering and discussing different options concerning the event. Health and safety are at the very heart of everything we do.

ABOAGORA invited doctoral candidates and art students to discuss and develop ideas about the earth – its past, present and future. What kinds of views are there in the history of the earth and between earth and humans? What are our hopes and dreams for the future of the earth – or our worst fears?

ABOAGORA 2019 was held on August 21–23 at the Sibelius Museum in Turku. Via art and various academic disciplines, the Symposium investigated the element of “Earth” – a fundamental aspect of human life, spanning the past as well as our present situation, and our hopes for the future.

The Threads of Fate: Burden/Skuld

ABOAGORA 2018 was held at the Sibelius Museum in Turku on August 22–24. The Symposium analysed different perspectives, utopian as well as dystopian, on the future and how the legacies of past generations lay claims on and model the possibilities of coming generations.
